Color my world

Ok so we all have the standard nude, ivory or white and black bra in the draw.  Actually I hope you have little sets in your lingerie draw.  It’s far more fun.   Anyway……. now it’s time to add some color.

Summer is here and what better time to splash some color on your nice tanned body.  The Jezebel “Elektra” collections have just arrived in fabulous colors.  Bright manderine and neon pink. They are really spectacular to look at on the hanger but when you put then on the body….  WOW!!  Your ready for a sizzling summer.

But Jezebel isn’t  the only ones with color.  On Gossamer has a beautiful robin egg blue set and  arriving  this august is Aubade’s gorgeous  orchide color for the Bahia collection.  (Get your orders in early ladies, have your set put aside).

Color has taken over.  No longer are the basic colors good enough.  We want beautiful, sexy, exotic styles bursting full of hues and tints.

And don’t forget to buy 2 panty’s for every bra.  Trust me you will save yourself a lot of laundry if you do that.  You will find that most bra’s come with more then 1 choice of bottom to match.  And if all else fails Hanky Panky almost always have a color of thong that will match any bra color you can find.

So go out and add some spice to your life.  A beautiful lingerie set is an uplifting feeling in more ways then one.

Make a splash

Well spring is finally here.  That means cruise season is in full swing and beach season is just around the corner.  Now I know you have all been hitting the gym and being that all the hard work is done, it’s my turn to find you just the right bathing suit for your new figure.

I myself could never find a suit that fit well.  I needed lots of uplift and the generic suits with the “shelf bra” just didn’t work.  After all my own difficulties I decided to bring swim wear into Fripperies that would enhance a women’s figure not push it to the wrong place’s or flatten it.   That of course means cup sized swimsuits.

This year companies such as Aubade, Rasurel, Huit, and A Che (just to mention a few) have done an outstanding job with color, detailing and cuts.  It is such a treat to try on a suit that actually fits you instead of you trying to fit into it.

As you can see these suits are beautiful.  Many have a size range up to a D or DD cup.

When choosing a swimsuit remember that more coverage doesn’t always mean better looking.  A high cut leg will make the leg look longer and a low waisted bottom will make the torso look longer.  You definitely want the top to fit well with no spilling over or crushing.  A good uplift will also make the body look longer and more toned.

We also carry more then just bikini’s.  The one piece suits are beautiful and supportive and cup sized as well.

There are many more choices these days so you don’t have to settle for something that isn’t quite right.  Look around and I am sure you will find just the right swimsuit to accent all you attributes.

A new season is upon us

I  just recently attended the Curve’s show in NYC. The place to be to see all the new &  fabulous lingerie for next season.  Although it can get overwhelming at times, it’s also magical.  I love seeing all the new and fabulous designs and the new tweeks to our old favorites.  Beautiful girls are walking around in silk bra & panty sets or stunning gowns to show off the items of vendors attending the show. Just when I think that everything that needs to be invented or designed has been, I stumble upon something new and wonderful.  This time it happened to be in the control foundation department but this is a hot area these days to make us all look great in our clothes.

This show I marveled at the beauty of Aubade’s attention to details and colors.  This august they will bring us the Bahia collection (Aubade’s #1 seller) in the most beautiful purple “Orchidee”.  You can check out this color soon on our web-site www.fripperiesltd.com

(Fripperies is definitely  taking pre-orders for this group.  So don’t miss out)

Also shown the new haute couture collection that actually has straps that hook as a garter belt would. So fabulous you have to see it to believe it (however this collection won’t be out until Fall, sorry).

Other great finds Diesel panty’s, Salua cotton nightwear, Marlies Dekkers (seen on some fab ladies ie. Fergie, Lady Ga Ga).   These brands are definitely worth checking  into.

Another great perk of attending  Curves is the fashion show they put on in some fun hotel or night club in the city.  I get lots of fun ideas for my own fashion show each time.  The champagne flows the appitizers are passed and a good time is had by all.

So all in all I always have a wonderful time at the show. I get lots of ideas, see lots of beautiful things and hopefully make the right decisions and bring my customers fabulous lingerie that they will just love.

He loves me … I love me not….

I can’t tell you how many women come in my store, try on several items only to declare  ”when I lose a few pounds, then I will look better in this”  or  ”I need to exchange this.  My husband bought it for me and I don’t wear sexy things. My body is not in shape anymore “.  Or the best one…”those days are long gone for me, I don’t know what he was thinking”.

Wake up ladies. Your man likes you the way you are!    He  wants to see you in sexy things because he thinks you look great in them.  Do you really think he would buy you something that he doesn’t want to see you in?  Why don’t we accept this fact?  I don’t care how long the two of you have been together. I’m telling you he stills wants that fun, free spirited, beautiful, sexy women he met, fell in love with, been by your side through thick and thin with.

If you want to get in shape, or lose weight or change your hair color of course he’s going to support you but that doesn’t mean he thinks you need to.  He wants you to be happy and if changing your hair color makes you happy then by all means do it.  He’s there for you.  But don’t confuse his support with critiquing you.  That is not what he is doing.

I love it when my customers come to me with a story of when they wore some beautiful lingerie and say “no one else knew what I had on, but I did and it made me feel wonderful”.  I wish I could bottle that attitude and give it out free to every women.  Please allow yourself to feel beautiful.  How long are you willing to wait?

Ok I think you get my point here.  STOP  STOP STOP  being so critical of your body and focus on all the good that is going on around you.  Accept the fact he loves you for who you are and give the guy a break.  Wear that little number he just bought you for Valentines day and see what happens.  You just might open yourself up to a brand new fabulous you.

fripperies lingerie finale

fripperies lingerie finale

Jan 24th  2pm at the MGM Grand ballroom.  It was a fabulous runway show.  VS has nothing on us.

The fashions were fabulous.  All the top designers were featured.  Aubade, Lise Charmel, Simone Perele, Jonquil,

Liane in Lise Charmel

Yvonne in Frou Frou

Elsa in Betsy Johnson

Frou Frou, Claire Pettibone, Cosabella, and so many more.

The 40 minute show went by in a flash.  The girls (all from the beauty within model management) worked the runway with professionalism and class.

The buzz during and after the show was nothing short of spectacular.

(Doesn’t Elsa look stunning in Betsy pink).

This was the most complicated fashion show I have ever put together.  Now I am not a professional runway show coordinator so I can only go by what I see and learn from on line shows or from the shows I see when I attend market week in NY.

Two  weeks of fittings, coordinating accessories with outfits.  Making sure the music fit the fashion segment.  (I’m tired again just thinking about all that went into one 40 minutes show.)

Sherelle in Elle Mcpherson

the girls had a wonderful day and for having only one hour of rehearsal on the runway I couldn’t have asked for anything more from them.

I hope you like the fashions you see here and will check back to see more.  You can also take a peek at other sets we carry at www.fripperiesltd.com

The foundation of a wonderful wedding ensemble

Aubades newest bridal collection

Though the wedding season won’t begin until later this spring, bridal season has begun.  By now, the spring and summer wedding venue and photographers have been booked, and brides are on to picking out and fitting their dresses.  Unfortunately the harsh reality of the wedding dress world is that the gown a bride may picture as her “dream dress” doesn’t actually work for her body type.  Time and time again, we at Fripperies have seen brides come in for their undergarments only to realize that a bra cannot magically make the dress “work.”

In order to avoid any fit issues between you, your gown, and your foundations, here are some guidelines you should follow:
-If you are over a D-cup in your bras, (you’ve all been professionally fitted by now, right??), you may want to avoid a strapless wedding gown.  Unfortunately a strapless bra, long line, or bustier may provide the look you want but at the expense of your comfort  for the long hours you have ahead of you.  A halter or cap-sleeved style looks great on a busty woman.  **Brides, please keep this in mind when thinking about dresses for your bridesmaids too!
-Once you have decided on a dress, please, please, please get fitted for your undergarments before you have the dress altered.  If you want a smooth, put-together look, you will need the proper fitting undergarments.  These will be another layer that you’re wearing that the dress needs to fit around.  Most seamstresses will ask that you wear the foundations to the fitting that you will be wearing on the actual wedding day anyways
.
-That first guideline  goes for backless or low-back dresses as well.
-There are three main styles that brides tend to choose from- a low back bustier, a long line, or a strapless bra.  If you’re unaware, a low back bustier is a piece that fits like a bra on top, and runs down to your waist, sitting above your hips.    A long line bustier is more coverage than a low back, extending all the way down to cover your hips.  Don’t be scared- this isn’t corsetry, we won’t have you grasping the wall as we tug at laces.  What we will do is work with you and your dress to determine which of these pieces will fit and flatter your body.
-At Fripperies, we also have a large selection of hosiery.  Though some brides choose to opt out of wearing hosiery, many like the classic look that thigh-highs or stockings provide when attached to the hooks on your bustier or garter belt.
-Going to toss your garter at the reception?  Here’s a tip– buy two garters.  One inexpensive to throw, and one that’s really special for you to keep.
We can’t sell you the dress at Fripperies, but we can help you with everything else you need to make it work– bustiers, bras, panties, garters, stockings… honeymoon lingerie, classic penoir sets, bridal party and shower gifts, maybe a little something blue too!  Let us help you look your best on your wedding day (and night :) .

New Year, New Gear

2009 December 26

2010 is just around the corner and this year Fripperies is going to help you keep your new year’s resolution to look fit, trim, and healthy.  While changing your diet and getting to the gym more often are two of the most important things you can do to improve yourself, we at Fripperies have seen women “lose weight” time and time again after a proper bra fitting.

When an ill-fitting bra leaves your breasts unsupported, they end up resting on top of your midsection.  This added bulk around your middle will do well to cover up any winter weight you’ve successfully shed.  Wearing the proper sized bra, and adjusting the straps so that your breasts sit midway between your shoulders and elbows is all you need for an instant slim-down.

In addition to making a visibly dramatic change to your figure, wearing a correctly sized and fitted bra will help to keep your spine in correct alignment.  Think about it this way: if your breasts are heavy enough to wear down a woven bra, they will certainly be heavy enough to cause a hunch in your shoulders, aka: back pain.  Though in some cases women may need the help of a physical therapist to reverse the effects of years of holding up their chests, others may find relief simply in the support of a good bra.

Maybe you’re reading this and asking, “What if I have already had a bra-fitting within the last year and just want something new?”  Fripperies has that too– Want that dress to look great on New Years Eve, but worried about all of the Christmas cookies? Stop in for a YummieTummie- the light control, extra-long, smoothing and shaping camisole that works both as innerwear and outerwear.  Or look at our selection of hosiery to make your basic little black dress look special all year round.   Maybe your resolution is to rediscover the spark you had on your wedding night with your husband.  Fripperies can help you relive that too with a beautiful penoir set, chemise, or bra and panty set.

Whatever your resoultion may be, come into Fripperies and see how we can help enhance and maintain the new, 2010 version, of you!

5 Top Tips To Avoid The Winter Blues, Lingerie Please Style!

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Sahara-SR

So the nights have drawn in and the cold is here to stay for a few months, we can hear the groans of disappointment already as you arrive to and leave work in the dark. Lingerie Please have put together 5 Top Tips to beat those Winter Blues…. with lingerie at the centre of course! What can’t a fabulous set of lingerie fix?

1) Buy your self some bright underwear…. This is the first thing you put on in the morning so brighten up your day before it has even begun and you’re sure to be happy all day!

2) Make sure you buy the right size bra – Being comfortable will enhance your mood, if your bra doesn’t fit and you are uncomfortable your day is sure to drag.

3) Buy some big knickers. These are sure to keep you cosy and comfortable when you feel like wrapping up in front of your fire.

4) Exercise – doing just 30 minutes of exercise a day increases levels of endorphins in the body, which are known to make us happy. Of course you will need a good sports bra to get you going.

5) Get playful in the bedroom…. who says you have to wait until Valentines day to be treated to nice lingerie? Get your other half to treat you to some sexy underwear with the promise of a treat in return.

We hope these quick tips help to warm up your winter, just remember…. nothing puts a smile on your face like when you look fantastic in some new lingerie!
